Easy Homemade Applesauce
Hello Friends, today I’m sharing with you an easy homemade applesauce recipe. My grandmother and my mother have made this recipe for as long as I can remember. A childhood favorite for sure. I know most of you probably just buy premade applesauce at the grocery store, but you will never buy that again after making your own. It is so EASY to make this applesauce recipe and it will be a fan favorite in your house, I promise!
My grandmother and my mom always serve this easy homemade applesauce recipe warmed in a little dish. It always tastes better warm and your kids will eat more of it if you do too. I will be sharing soon the yummiest pork tenderloin recipe that goes perfectly with this applesauce. It is a match made in heaven for sure! It freezes great too, so go ahead and make a double batch 😉 Just make sure you have a dutch oven large enough!
I will be sharing at least one recipe a week, so make sure you make these detox rainbow wraps. They are simple to make and so pretty to serve. Definitely try them and tag me on social media or leave a comment here when you do. I love to hear from you all!
Easy Homemade Applesauce
Ingredients
- 10 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar (sometimes I use less depending on how sweet I want it!)
- 1 cup water
- pinch of salt
- 1 tablespoon butter, optional
Instructions
Place apple slices in a large dutch oven, and toss with lemon juice. Add water Simmer on low for 1 hour and stir occasionally to avoid burning. Once apples break down, stir in brown sugar. I like to do this a bit at a time and taste test. Some apples are sweeter and need less than others. Finish with a pinch of salt and butter (optional) to balance the sweetness, stir and enjoy!
Great post Jess! This recipe freezes beautifully. A real favorite with young and old alike. It’s also great to take to someone who needs a soft food diet. Wonderful for family dinners as evidenced from all our wonderful memories!
