Girls Trip Itinerary: Christmas in London

Dec 24

Our girls’ trip to London was the perfect mix of fun adventure, and indulgence. My sister and I spent three and half fabulous days soaking up the best of what the city has to offer—shopping, sightseeing, delicious food, and plenty of laughs. We stayed at the Sofitel St. James, a gorgeous hotel just a five minute walk from Piccadilly Circus. Its central location, just a short walk from Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square, made it the perfect base for our trip.

Our trip started off with a bit of an unexpected twist. Our flight from home got diverted to Belgium due to some pretty bad weather, so we found ourselves on a train for a few extra hours. Needless to say, we were a bit frazzled. But after some travel drama, we finally made it to London in time for our dinner reservation, and everything fell into place from there. We headed straight to Ave Mario, a lively Italian restaurant in Covent Garden, which was the perfect spot to unwind after our eventful day. The atmosphere was vibrant, the decor was fabulous. The food? Even better. We shared pasta, sipped wine, and just took a breath, feeling grateful to be in London after all the travel chaos. It was the perfect start to what turned out to be an amazing trip.

Sunday was all about treating ourselves, and we started the day with a leisurely breakfast at the hotel before heading out for some serious retail therapy. First stop: Regent Street, which is one of London’s top shopping destinations. We spent hours popping into designer stores like Burberry, Prada, Chanel, and Coach. We also stopped by Saint Laurent and Gucci, where we admired the latest collections and tried on some dream pieces. There’s something magical about walking along Regent Street, especially when you’re surrounded by so many iconic brands.

Next, we hit Fortnum & Mason, where we got swept up in the festive atmosphere. The displays were stunning, and we couldn’t resist picking up a few gourmet treats to take home. From there, we went straight to Harrods, which is like a shopping wonderland. We wandered through the opulent rooms filled with everything from designer clothes to fine wines. If you’re looking to treat yourself to something special, you’ll find it at Harrods.

After shopping until we almost couldn’t carry any more bags, it was time for a treat. We made our way to The Ritz for an afternoon of Champagne and caviar. It was the kind of luxurious experience you’d expect from one of the world’s most famous hotels, and we absolutely loved it.

We finished the day with a relaxed dinner at Jacuzzi, a Mediterranean restaurant that was laid-back but still so stylish. The food was incredible, and it was a nice, low-key way to end a packed day.

We kicked off Monday with a delicious breakfast at Duck & Waffle, one of the highest restaurants in London. The views from the top of the Heron Tower were absolutely stunning—definitely the perfect way to start the day! The restaurant had such a vibrant energy, and the food was just as amazing as the scenery. We tried the signature Duck & Waffle (crispy duck leg served with a waffle and maple syrup), which was everything we’d hoped for, and the cocktails were a great touch to start the morning off right. It was the ideal way to begin the day, with unforgettable views and delicious food.

After breakfast, we headed straight to Hamleys, the iconic toy store on Regent Street. I had visited last December with my daughter, and returning with my sister was just as magical. We explored the seven floors of toys, games, and all sorts of fun finds. It was the perfect spot to pick out Christmas gifts for our kids, and we couldn’t help but get lost in the wonder of it all. Hamleys really is like a kid’s dream come true—whether you’re young or just young at heart!

Next, we made our way to Selfridges, where we spent a few hours indulging in some serious retail therapy. From high-end fashion to beauty products, we had a blast browsing and trying on some gorgeous pieces. We picked up a few things, naturally, and left feeling totally satisfied with our finds. Afterward, we swung by Harvey Nichols, where we continued our shopping spree, snapping up a few more luxe items.

By then, we were ready for a late lunch, so we headed to 34 Mayfair. The atmosphere was chic and relaxed, and the food was absolutely delicious—just what we needed to recharge for the rest of the afternoon.

After lunch, we strolled down New Bond Street to visit the Ralph Lauren flagship store, which was a dream. We spent some time perusing their latest collections before heading to the elegant Burlington Arcade, a charming covered shopping arcade with some of the best luxury jewelry shops in the city. The historic architecture and high-end boutiques made it the perfect place for a leisurely walk and a little window shopping.

We wrapped up our afternoon with a walk through Piccadilly Circus before heading to the West End for the highlight of the day—Hamilton.

Hamilton was absolutely incredible. From the moment the curtain went up, we were hooked. The performances were phenomenal, the music was everything we hoped for, and the whole production was fresh, exciting, and captivating. We couldn’t stop talking about it afterward—if you’re in London, this show is an absolute must-see!

To cap off the day, we grabbed a late-night bite at Pizza Hut. After all the shopping and excitement, sometimes a classic pizza is exactly what you need. We were tired but happy, reflecting on what an amazing day it had been.

Our last day in London was a perfect mix of sightseeing and soaking up the holiday spirit. We started with breakfast at The Royal Exchange, a beautiful spot with cafes and boutiques. From there, we made our way to Leadenhall Market, a historic and charming covered market where we browsed some unique shops and took in the Victorian architecture.

Then, we hit the must-see spots: Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. We couldn’t help but stop and take all the touristy pictures. They were just as magnificent as we imagined. From there, we took a cab to Liberty London, which is housed in a stunning Tudor-style building and is home to a lot of unique British designers. We did a little shopping (of course) before grabbing lunch at Daphne’s, a gorgeous Italian restaurant in Chelsea.

In the afternoon, we wandered around the Liberty area, checking out the local boutiques, and then headed to Piccadilly Circus for one last walk through the heart of London. After a quick rest at the hotel, we made our way to the Christmas markets at Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden. The festive lights, mulled wine, and cozy market stalls had us feeling all the holiday vibes.

We wrapped up our trip with a quick dinner at Shakeshack—sometimes a burger and fries is just the thing you need after all the fancy meals. Afterward, we caught The Book of Mormon at the theater, which was hilarious and the perfect way to end our adventure. We walked through Covent Garden afterward, taking in the Christmas lights and snapping some photos with zero tourists in the way—definitely one of the highlights of the trip.
