Discovering Paradise: My Unforgettable Stay at Salterra Resort in South Caicos

If you’ve been dreaming of turquoise waters, untouched landscapes, and luxury that doesn’t sacrifice authenticity—South Caicos needs to be on your radar. This April, I had the pleasure of visiting for the grand opening of Salterra Resort, and let me just say: it was love at first sight.

It was my first time in South Caicos—and it definitely won’t be my last.

Why South Caicos? The Hidden Gem of Turks and Caicos

South Caicos is like the Montana of the Caribbean—wide open, serene, and truly unspoiled. A local guide told us, “South Caicos is Montana, and Providenciales is Las Vegas,” and he wasn’t wrong. It’s the perfect destination for travelers who crave peace, nature, and luxury all in one. With a brand new airport servicing direct flights from American Airlines, getting there has never been easier. I flew from Atlanta via Miami, and even though I’m a Delta girl, it was a breeze.

Introducing Salterra Resort: South Caicos’ New Luxury Destination

The resort is a true sanctuary of bliss, built into the island’s natural beauty. I brought my sister along for a girls’ getaway, and we stayed in a two-bedroom suite that was ideal for families—especially those with multiple kids (we have six between us!).

  • I had the king suite with views of the ocean and pool.
  • My sister stayed in the double queen room, perfect for kids.
  • The spacious living room featured a huge sectional sofa, comfortably holding our five suitcases (with room to spare).

It’s not just great for families—I saw couples, friend groups, and even solo travelers enjoying the grounds. Whether you’re planning a girls’ trip, romantic getaway, or family vacation, Salterra checks all the boxes.

Top Experiences at Salterra

1. Dining at All of the Restaurants + Café

Our trip kicked off with an unforgettable wine and salt pairing dinner at Brine, which now ranks in my top 5 dining experiences ever. Each of the five courses featured a different locally infused sea salt—even the dessert. This culinary experience was enhanced by the famous South Caicos salt flats, which give the island its distinctive character and history.

Bonus: despite the gourmet indulgence, we woke up the next day feeling light and energized—perfect for another day in swimsuits!

2. Island Adventures

We packed our days with:

  • Snorkeling and kayaking
  • Biking the island trails
  • Swimming in crystal-clear waters
  • Holding starfish
  • Boating around the coast
  • Light hiking and exploring the local iguana habitats

Each activity left us more in awe of South Caicos’ raw beauty and wildlife.

Family-Friendly Features Worth Noting

I know firsthand how tricky travel can be with little ones, so I was thrilled to see that Salterra Resort is designed with families in mind:

  • A dedicated kids’ club and babysitting services so parents can actually relax
  • A shaded kids’ pool with cabanas, perfect for babies and sun-shy moms like me
  • Exceptional pool and beachside service—just raise your flag and a team member appears
  • And yes… we saw guests getting foot massages in poolside cabanas. Talk about next-level pampering.

Spa, Adventure Sports & More

While we were there, the spa was still being finished, but it looked stunning. You better believe I’m booking a treatment when we go back.

Speaking of which—my family and I are already planning our return trip in February for whale migration season. My husband’s excited about fishin, and the resort was in the middle of adding windsurfing and other adventure excursions

Yoga, Tranquility, and That Croatia Vibe

The 7 AM coastal yoga class melted away every ounce of stress. Honestly, the water reminded me of Croatia—vivid blues, calm seas, and that same peaceful atmosphere. My girls still talk about our Croatia trip, so I know they’ll be enchanted by South Caicos.
