• Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole — This is where I’d stay if I were bringing the kids and really wanted to lean into the full mountain experience. You’re perfectly positioned for days spent exploring Grand Teton and Yellowstone, hiking, fly fishing or horseback riding, but you still get all the luxuries I want at the end of the day—a beautiful spa, incredible dining and that true five-star Four Seasons service.
• Hotel Jackson — If I were coming with Matt or planning a girls’ trip, I might choose Hotel Jackson simply because I love the idea of being right in town. You can walk out the door to Town Square, pop into the shops and galleries, grab a drink and head to dinner without having to go anywhere. It’s intimate, beautiful and gives you a little more of that downtown Jackson experience.

You really can’t go wrong with either—it just depends on the kind of Jackson Hole trip you want to have.

Fly into Jackson Hole, arrange a private transfer and check into your hotel. I wouldn’t plan anything major for this first afternoon. Give yourself a minute to settle in, take in those mountain views and officially get into Western mode.

• Kemo Sabe in Town Square would absolutely be my first stop for the full custom cowboy hat experience. Pick your hat, have it shaped and then make it your own with a band, feathers, cords—whatever feels like you. And yes, if you’ve been talking yourself out of buying a really great pair of cowboy boots, I’m giving you permission. This is the trip.
• Snake River Grill is a Jackson classic right off Town Square. It’s been here for decades and feels like exactly where you want to be on your first night—rustic and Western, but still elevated enough to make dinner feel special. Definitely make this reservation ahead of time.
• Million Dollar Cowboy Bar would be so fun if you still have a little energy after dinner. You bought the hat. You bought the boots. You might as well give them somewhere to go.

Start the morning with coffee and a good breakfast, then head out for a horseback ride. This feels like one of those Jackson Hole experiences you really should do at least once—and I would absolutely book something that feels a little more authentic than a quick tourist loop.

• JH Outfitting Company or Mill Iron Ranch would both be great options for the morning. JH Outfitting offers some more elevated specialty experiences, while Mill Iron Ranch gives you that classic Wyoming horseback-riding moment. Either way, this is your morning to fully lean into the Western thing.
• Grand Teton National Park should take up the afternoon, but I would keep it easy. This does not need to become a marathon hiking day. Drive the scenic route, stop whenever the view is too good not to, take plenty of photos and choose a manageable trail depending on the weather and how everyone is feeling. The Tetons are the main event—you do not have to overcomplicate it.
• Jackson Hole Playhouse is where I would end the night if your dates line up. Dinner is served at the Saddle Rock Saloon, the waitstaff sings, and then you head into the historic theater for a live production. For fall 2026, Camelot runs September 7–26, followed by Halloween programming October 9–31. It is wonderfully kitschy in exactly the way a Wyoming night should be.

Go home, shower, put on the boots and the good jacket, and make a night of it. This is not the evening to be understated.

 This is the morning to get out on the water. Fall is such a good time for fly fishing in Jackson Hole, and I love that this can be just as much about the scenery and the experience as it is about actually catching anything.

• Jackson Hole Anglers would be my pick for a private guided trip. And if you have never fly fished before, do not let that stop you. Beginners absolutely belong here too. A good guide will handle the gear, teach you what you need to know and make the whole morning feel easy.
• After fishing, go back to the hotel and do absolutely nothing productive for the rest of the afternoon. Shower, put on something cozy, sit by the fire, order a drink, maybe book a spa treatment—whatever sounds like the opposite of rushing. This is the reset day.
• Glorietta Trattoria is where I would make dinner reservations. Handmade pasta, wood-fired cooking, great cocktails and a serious Italian wine list in a warm, hearth-centered dining room. It feels cozy and polished at the same time, which is exactly what I would want after a day on the river.

Get up early because this morning is the kind of thing you plan a whole trip around—a sunrise hot-air balloon ride over Jackson Hole. 

• Wyoming Balloon Company offers sunrise flights over the valley and ranchland with views toward the Tetons, the Snake River corridor and the surrounding mountain ranges. The flight itself is usually around 45 minutes to an hour, and of course it is weather dependent, so keep a little flexibility in the schedule.
• Afterward, head back into town for lunch and spend the afternoon shopping and wandering Jackson’s galleries. If you did not make your custom hat on Day One, this is your second chance. Browse Western jewelry, belts, boots and those one-of-a-kind pieces that actually feel special enough to bring home.
• The Wild Sage Restaurant at the Rusty Parrot Lodge is where I would go for the big dinner night. It is intimate and upscale, with an exhibition kitchen and a river-rock fireplace.
• If you are staying at Four Seasons, Steadfire Chophouse is another great option. Think elevated Western steakhouse, premium cuts, regional game and open-fire cooking.

One morning, don’t set an alarm. Order coffee and breakfast to the room, put on your coziest set and settle in by the fire. Jackson Hole is one of those places where staying in can feel every bit as special as going out — particularly when the temperatures start to drop in fall.
