Inspirational Outfits from My Favorite Fall Movies

The leaves are changing, and this new season makes me want to re-watch some classic films! These movies are great for the whole family and have the best fall vibes! Many feature Central Park in New York City, and the gold and orange leaves pop off the screen. I pulled some inspirational fall fashion based on the characters in these movies, I hope they give you the same cozy feelings and make you want to bust out your favorite cable knit sweaters.

This is a specific time of year – before we get to Halloween madness with spooky season decorations, horror movies, or other classic movies like Hocus Pocus! This is the perfect time to wear leather jackets with skirts before it’s too cold. The color palette turns to deeper colors and detailed patterns. The movies and books are all about great love stories. Not to mention the fun fall activities: apple picking, savoring a pumpkin spice latte, and watching my girls crash into piles of crunchy leaves. If you can’t tell, this really is the best part of the year.

So, without further delay, enjoy my little celebration of the fall season. I can’t think of a better time to spend with best friends enjoying the very best fall movies, I hope you feel the same way! Share your favorite seasonal snacks and drinks to really kick a girls’ night up a notch! I do want to note, that a lot of movies I wanted to include were cut, for example, the wonderful Practical Magic with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. However, the fall aesthetics were not there and didn’t match the vibe I was going for. Another honorable mention is Gilmore Girls because of the New England foliage, however it has several seasons featured in it and I wanted to focus on fall specifically.

The first movie I picked was ‘When Harry Met Sally’ with Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal. These friends turned lovers see each other through seasons of life and love and realize their perfect partner was there the whole time. A classic love story! While these fashion trends are from the height of the 1980s, I gave these colors and patterns a modern update! This movie has some iconic scenes in Central Park, a must-watch for the fall!

The second movie is ‘One Fine Day’ with the always-gorgeous George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer. The lives of two strangers and their young children unexpectedly intersect on one hectic, stressful day in New York City. Two divorced and independent people find love, the ultimate love story. Michelle Pfeiffer has a very corporate vibe in this movie, so I leaned into skirts and boots for these looks.

The third movie is ‘You’ve Got Mail’ with the queen of fall movies, Meg Ryan again and Tom Hanks! Book superstore magnate Joe Fox and independent book shop owner, and main character, Kathleen Kelly, fall in love with the anonymity of the Internet, both blissfully unaware that he’s trying to put her out of business. This movie has the most cozy aesthetic, with books and blankets that will make you want to grab your most cozy sweaters!

Our fourth movie pic is ‘Runaway Bride’ with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Richard Gere is a journalist writing a piece on Julia Roberts, a bride who has left a string of fiancés at the alter. After getting to know each other, they fall in love, and he gets her to the alter. If you are a soon-to-be bride, the different styles of weddings are great to see in this movie! I was inspired by some of her casual looks in this movie, and the plaid cape I found is to die for!

My final movie pic is ‘Autumn in New York’ with Winona Ryder and Richard Gere. It is a romantic drama about an aging playboy who falls for a sweet but terminally ill young woman. This movie screams, ‘We are not promised tomorrow, so live today.’ These looks are a fun day out or romantic date, highlighting knit pieces!
